Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door!
Am actually Singing as I write this post, am terrible at it but still I insist. Thanks goodness it is in writing because I would burst your eardrums. My singing talent is just for self pleasure and goes far as the bathroom. That aside, singing can help in expressing our innermost emotions. Emotions can be complicated and literally all over the place.
Emotions have a way to get to us, build or mess us up. No matter the type the of emotions you are dealing with they can get to you. Good emotions give you a sense of confidence others just stretch it to overconfidence haha. Bad emotions tear you apart, some are too bad that they just push you off the cliff. Sometimes you are just at the middle, (mixed feelings) , this situation kinda sucks, neither cold nor hot.
At that particular moment when the *emotionmeter* is at 100%, dealing with it is really critical. The step you take from this moment determines where you end up. Pool of pride and overconfidence, where you can barely stand yourself let alone people around you? Laying on a coach in a therapist office eyes closed and narrating how you ended up depressed.
Think of an emotion as a beam bridge over to the other side. Therefore, you need to make calculated steps as you walk over to the other side lest you fall off.
How I deal with emotions?
1. SING! Sing it out deary, this calms you down from the excess happiness and anger. Being calm gives you a chance for a clear thought on the matter. Find that song you love or relates to your situation and sing along. You don’t have to be a star to pull this, sing sing….
Sing out your heart
Sing out your sorrow
Sing out your pain
Sing out your achievement
Sing out your fulfillment
Sing out your happiness
2. WRITE! Most of us just write on the bad experience leaving out the good and the grey experiences. Writing down your emotions gives you a chance to think deep through them as you find the words to elaborate how you feel. The diary serves as the second independent person who listens as you write it down. At times you don’t have much to write because you just blew the situation out of proportion. Its really nothing, it is not as bad as you actually thought. Yes its an achievement ,super, but am not there yet let me not boast about it.
3.MAKE A LIST! Make a list of Pros and Cons that may spring from the flood of emotions you are having especially the grey emotions. A pro/Con can go a long way in clearly defining what you should feel about something.
4. EMBRACE/FORGIVE. You have achieved something, treat yourself to dinner, massage or something you love. Embrace yourself you did amazing. On the other side of the coin, forgive and let go. Is it easy? Of course not but it does more good to you if you let go. Dont throw yourself a pity party
Well nothing new, sorry, am sure you have read, written or heard about this very ways to deal with emotions.
But, it saddens me that there still people resulting to hurting themselves or worse still suicide because of un-dealt with emotions.
Thank you for reading my post, I would appreciate your thoughts in the comment section.
